Section 508 Guidelines

  • 1194.22 (g): Row and column headers shall be identified for data tables.” and “(h) Markup shall be used to associate data cells and header cells for data tables that have two or more logical levels of row or column headers.
  • 1194.22 (h): Markup for data and header cells for tables with multiple row or column headers

How to Fix the Problem

Ensure table cells are structured properly using the Table Editor in Adobe Acrobat Pro's TouchUp Reading Order tool so that all rows within each table have a consistent width.

To check the table:

  1. Select Advanced > Accessibility > TouchUp Reading Order...
  2. Select the table by clicking the number in the top left hand corner of the table.
  3. elect the Table Editor button on the TouchUp Reading Order panel. The table cells will be outlined in red and labeled with their tags. The red outlines may not exactly match up to the table cells but you should be able to determine if the cells are tagged correctly.
